Hitz-Rhodehamel Nature Preserve – A Wild Hike Through the Woods!
In 2012, a group called the Hoosier Hikers Council worked with The Nature Conservancy to build a 3-mile trail through this beautiful forest in Brown County. The land is full of tall oak trees, colorful wildflowers in spring, and amazing fall colors.
The trail is only 3 miles long, but it can be tough! There are two big hills (each about 200 feet tall), plus some smaller ones. Most hikes end with a climb back up to the parking lot—so save some energy!
Tips for your hike:
- Bring a map and compass
- Watch for trail signs—there are old paths that can be confusing
- The trail is great for hiking, biking, and horseback riding
How to get there:
Freeman Ridge Road is a narrow residential road, please access from Bear Wallow Road.
