The Brown County Commissioners are applying to join a powerful new community-wide program offered through OCRA (Office of Community and Rural Affairs) and Ball State University called the Rural Empowerment and Development (RED) Program.

This initiative is designed for communities ready to take their vision for development to the next level—by deepening local collaboration and citizen engagement.

Why It Matters

Brown County has already made great strides in coming together across sectors, and this program offers a chance to build even more momentum. With your help, we can shape our future through inclusive conversations and purposeful small-scale projects.

What It Involves

  • Up to a 12-month commitment

  • 40 community participants from a wide range of backgrounds

  • Begins with a multi-day learning experience

  • Includes professional coaching from Ball State’s Indiana Communities Institute (ICI)

  • Participants will engage neighbors, analyze community data, and identify real opportunities for growth

  • The outcome: a sustainable community engagement strategy to improve quality of life

Interested?

We’re seeking participants from across the community who are excited to be part of this transformative opportunity.

If you’re interested—or know someone who would be a great fit—please email Tim Clark (linked in the button below) by noon on Tuesday, July 1. (note: If you choose to participate, your name and email will be shared with the County Commissioners as your official application to the RED Program.
