Heading to Brown County, Indiana for the Christmas season? You’re in for a treat. As a local, I can tell you—our small town turns into a true winter wonderland in December. Twinkling lights, festive music, cozy cafés, the smell of cocoa and popcorn in the air… it’s impossible not to get in the holiday spirit.

First things first: entering the Brown County Christkindl Market at Coachlight Square on December 6 & 7 is completely free. Yep, no tickets, no lines, no stress. Just a weekend full of holiday cheer, shopping, live music, and tasty treats.

The Gingerbread Workshop (a.k.a. Kid Heaven)

If you’re bringing the kids or you’re just a kid at heart—The Gingerbread Workshop sponsored by Johann Real Estate is must-see. Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Letters to Santa (they really do read them!)

  • Snow shows and snow globe photo opportunities

  • Cotton candy, popcorn, and festive treats

  • Face painting and balloon artistry

Everything here is free, which makes it a perfect spot to start your day, snap some photos, and get into the holiday spirit.

Shop Local & Discover Brown County

Once you’ve had your fill of crafts and cocoa, it’s time to explore. This year, the market features 34 vendors with unique gifts, handmade crafts, and holiday décor.

Don’t stop there—Brown County’s shops, restaurants, and cafés are open for extra Christmas cheer. The Nutcracker Nosh highlights local restaurants serving festive meals, snacks, and seasonal drinks. Grab a hot cocoa or a holiday-inspired treat and stroll the streets while listening to carolers, it’s the ultimate small-town Christmas experience.

Live Entertainment at Coachlight Square

One of my favorite things about the Christkindl Market? Music, dance, and performances popping up all over town. And right at Coachlight Square, there’s a full weekend schedule:

December 6:

  • 11:00 AM – Amanda Webb

  • 12:00 PM – Circle City Stompers

  • 1:00 PM – The Hungry Five

  • 2:00 PM – Another Round

  • 3:00 PM – Die Fledermauschen Tanzgruppe

  • 4:00–5:00 PM – Indy Polkanation

December 7:

  • 11:00 AM – Albert Nolting

  • 12:00 PM – Motion Arts Dance Academy

  • 1:00 PM – Tuba Jim

  • 2:00 PM – Woodridge Music Academy Choir

  • 3:00 PM – Bryce Mullins

From lively jazz bands to dance troupes and choirs, there’s something for everyone. Personally, I can’t resist Indy Polkanation—try to keep your toes still, I dare you!

Local Tips

Brown County can get busy, especially with multiple holiday events happening at the same time. Here’s how to make your day smooth and stress-free:

  • Park early—throughout all of Nashville – spots fill up fast, so arrive with time to spare.
  • Dress in layers – December is chilly, and walking around all day is more fun when you’re warm.
  • Bring hand warmers – keep your hands cozy while enjoying vendors and outdoor entertainment.
  • Start at the Visitors Center – pick up a Christmas Map, see what’s happening that day, and get tips on the best vendors, restaurants, cafés, and performances.
  • Don’t miss special events – on December 6, enjoy the Light Parade, tree lightings, festive music, and Santa spotting around town.
