Dear Brown County Lodging Partner,
With the increase of the innkeeper’s tax on July 1, 2025, from 5% to 8%, the county council working in collaboration with industry workgroups, voted to streamline the tax collection process by making the state the sole collection point, eliminating the need to mail tax collection to the Brown County Treasurer and submitting payment online. Effective September 1, 2025, anyone collecting innkeeper’s tax must: (1) be registered with the Indiana Department of Revenue for purposes of the County Innkeepers Tax; and (2) begin filing their returns with, and remitting the taxes to, the department.
