Come explore Brown County State Park, the biggest state park in Indiana, covering over 16,000 acres of beautiful hills, ridges, and foggy ravines. Often called the “Little Smokies” because it looks like the Great Smoky Mountains, this park is a favorite for outdoor fun and stunning views.
In the fall, the park becomes a top spot for leaf-peeping, with 20 miles of tree-lined roads and scenic overlooks. It’s also on the National Register of Historic Places as Indiana’s largest historic district.
There’s so much to do here:
- Hiking and biking: Over 70 miles of trails, including some of the best mountain biking in the country.
- Horseback riding: Enjoy guided trail rides, a saddle barn, and miles of horse trails.
- Abe Martin Lodge: Stay in cozy hotel rooms or cabins, enjoy on-site dining, and splash around in the indoor water park.
- Camping: Choose from large campgrounds or the horseman campground for equestrian visitors.
- Nature Center: Open year-round with fun programs and exhibits.
- Seven Vista Challenge: Hike to seven scenic spots for amazing views.
Love the water? The park has two lakes:
- Ogle Lake: Great for fishing and boating (rowboats and electric motors only). A DNR Lake Permit is required.
- Strahl Lake: No boats allowed, but fishing is welcome.
You’ll need a state fishing license to fish in either lake. Both licenses and permits are available at the Park Office. Please note: there are no boat rentals in the park.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway, a family vacation, or just looking for places to go for a long weekend, Brown County State Park is the perfect place to relax, explore, and enjoy the outdoors.
