The House of the Singing Winds
The House of the Singing Winds at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site was the creation of Theodore and Selma Steele, an endeavor that began over one hundred years ago.
As part of the Centennial of Steele’s passing in 1926, the Brown County Art Gallery Foundation asked premier Indiana artists C.W. Mundy and Rita Spalding to capture the essence of the House of the Singing Winds a century later.
They began their work in 2023. Rita was the first artist to paint in the house since Steele himself.
On display is a preview of the exhibition that will feature their body of work at the site along with Brown County paintings by T.C.Steele.
And you will hear from Selma as well. Her story of strength and dedication will be told in the form of a play, “Selma and the Painter”. Written by Lyn Letsinger-Miller, Selma will be portrayed by actress, Jill Tasker.
In partnership with T.C.Steele State Historic Site and the Indiana State Museum.
