Brown County, nicknamed the Hills O’ Brown, is an outdoor playground featuring 176,830 acres of forested land. Offering year-round recreation activities such as: hiking, camping, canoeing, horseback riding, picnicking, swimming, fishing, mountain biking, sledding and crosscountry skiing, Brown County has something for everyone.
In 1929, Brown County State Park, the largest state park in Indiana, covering 16,000 acres, was opened to the public. The highest point in Brown County, known as Weed Patch Hill, is located in Brown County State Park. Today most of Brown County is forested with tulip poplar, sassafras, redbud, dogwood, elm, maple, beech, oak and hickory — providing the vivid color palette during the fall.
